Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu or BJJ, is one of the fastest growing martial arts in the world,
this no-nonsense approach to submission wrestling is widely gaining
popularity as one of the most effective self defence systems available.
With origins in traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Judo, BJJ was developed
and refined in Rio de Janeiro by the Gracie Family and their cousins the
Machados. Over the last 80 years BJJ has constantly evolved and developed
through constant competitions and no holds barred fights to become the
effective system that it is. Practitioners of BJJ use position and control
to setup joint locks and chokes to control even much larger opponents.
Today there is a competitive sport of BJJ available with regular state and
national tournaments held each year. BJJ has great fitness benefits as
well being a practical form of self defence that encourages thinking and
problem solving; it is suitable for men, women and children. | | | | |
